EWAlution
This dynamic partnership called EWAlution has been making a difference in the Ewa Beach community since 2000.  With over 18 organizations and a coalition membership of 54 members and growing, EWAlution works towards a safe and drug-free community for its youth and families.  Originally known as the Ewa Beach Community Coalition (EBCC), the group was funded by the Hawaii Community Foundation to conduct a planning process in which Ewa Beach youth and adults focused on youth and community health issues.  From this planning process came the collective, unifying vision that “Ewa will be a place where community members, young and old alike, can and will create positive social change for themselves.”

Since then, the EBCC strengthened its efforts and expanded to join with the Ewa Beach Weed and Seed Initiative in 2003.  The result of this powerful, community-based partnership was literally an EWAlution, thus came its new name.  Today, EWAlution mobilizes leadership and participation from all sectors of the community sponsoring and organizing many activities in the community to promote safe and healthy lifestyles, family strengthening, and community pride.  Some of these activities include regular Move On The Wall family nights, the Positive Choices program for youth, community-wide pride events such as Spring Fest and the Christmas Parade, community service projects including beach clean-ups and bus stop painting, and the establishment of a Safe Haven at the Boys & Girls Club Hale Pono Clubhouse.

Movie on the Wall (MOTW)
Movie on the Wall is a celebration of families having a safe environment to spend time together and join with others in the community.  EWAlution identified MOTW as one of many activities to offer within the community that would promote a healthy and drug-free family event.  A family-oriented movie is selected by EWAlution members and it is projected onto a big wall/screen at the Boys and Girls Club Hale Pono Clubhouse.  Along with the movie is a resource fair, food booths, and door prizes for families.  MOTW cultural and holiday themes were created to add meaning to the event such as October’s “Harvest MOTW”, November’s Thanksgiving Food Distribution Drive MOTW, and February’s Drug-Free Hawaii Awareness Month MOTW.  Contact EWAlution to receive notices of future MOTW nights!

Kalihi Valley Collbaborative
A community coalition organized in 2002 to address underage drinking and juvenile delinquency.  Activities in 2003-2005 included family movie nights,  Second Step violence prevention program, morning basketball, and the Kalihi `Ohana event.  Future activities in the works are: a drug-free community fair, neighborhood clean-up events, and drug free graduation events.  Partner agencies include representative from local government, resident associations, local schools, churches and non-profit service providers.
