Drug-Free Hawai'i Awareness Month (DFHAM is a state-wide substance abuse awareness campaign implemented every February by CDFH and its partner agencies to promote a healthy, productive, and drug-free lifestyle for every individual, family, and community member.
Our partners include: DOE Safe and Drug-FreeSchools and Communities, Office of the Attorney General, KamehamehaSchools' Extension Education Division-Health, Wellness and Family Education Department, Kaiser Permanente and many other sponsoring groups.
The mainstay events of DFHAM are the Ola Pono Awards and the Hawaiian Style Backyard Jam.
The Ola Pono (Live Right for a Safe and Drug-Free Hawai'i) Awards honor those who make meaningful, substantial personal contributions to our community by promoting safe, healthy, and drug-free lifestyles.

The 8th Annual Hawaiian Style Backyard Jam is a free-to-the -public, family oriented concert and informational fair with a drug-free message. Participants are entertained by popular local bands and youth dance groups, browse substance abuse prevention informational booths sponsored by non-profit service organizations, and enjoy tasty food by local vendors. The objectives of DFHAM are to provide information to raise public awareness about preventing substance abuse and to mobilize and unify schools, families, and communities in promoting healthy lifestyles.
